Photography: Jake Baggaley

I particularly like photography which teaches me something and shows me the world from a different perspective. I think that's why I'm such a big fan of Jake Baggaley. He describes himself as a 'social documentary and portrait photographer'. His photographs taken inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone are particularly eye-opening. We've all heard of the tragedy but Jake's photos take us into the lives of the few survivors living within the zone and demonstrate just how isolated and forgotten these people are. His photos are beautiful yet heart-breaking at the same time.

Please do check out his website, his photographs are incredible!

Poladroid

I've just been introduced to an app which will keep my Polaroid cravings to a controllable level until I finally get my hands on the real thing!

It's called Poladroid (see what they did there?) and it is worth downloading for free just for the sound effects!

Here are a few pics I created earlier...

My former flatmate in Barcelona.

I used to have red hair!

Butterflies are cool.

I miss going to so many gigs.

Barcelona is a lovely place :)

Have a go yourself!

Photography: Fallen Princesses

I absolutely love this stunning series of photos by the very talented Dina Goldstein and how they challenge the classic fairy tale stereotype of the Disney princesses.

Dina has also just posted about a new project called In The Dollhouse taking a peek inside the 'real life' of Barbie and Ken. Be warned, it's not as blissful as you may think ;)

Little Chicken

I've always wanted a dog. I was never allowed one as my parents didn't think we'd collectively be able to properly look after one. Fast forward many years, and here they are. With. A. Dog. Yes, I moved out and they finally got a dog!

However, they got her in a very round-about way. My brother's ex had 3 dogs, Chicken being the little doggy living with 2 massive dogs. Inevitably, they stole her food and she wasn't very happy. The little dog had to leave... My brother asked my parents if she could stay with them until he and his now ex-girlfriend saved up and moved into their own place. They said no, they didn't want a dog around. Eventually my bro managed to persuade them to have her for one night as they hadn't found anywhere to keep her that night and my parents gave in. The rest is history as they completely fell in love with her, though my Dad managed to act inconvenienced for a little while ;)

My brother's ex turned out to be not such a nice person and barely even came to visit Chicken even while they were still together. So when they split up, Chicken stayed with my family :) I met her a few months lately and found her a little scary for the first few minutes. She's a tiny ball of fur with a huge amount of energy and she had literally launched herself at me! She soon settled down and fell asleep on my lap and that was it. I was besotted!

Two years on and I try to hang out with her as much as possible, which is difficult considering we're 5 hours apart from each other. My family get a little jealous as they think I'm just wanting to see her ;)

Here are a few photos we took not so long ago :) Be warned, this dog is a poser!

I love this one :)

A Walk Through Leafy London

Yesterday was beautiful and I had nothing planned so I took myself and my camera for a walk. I really like the area in which I currently live in North London. It's leafy and green and away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. I love Hampstead Heath because it feels never-ending and I always discover something new every time I visit :)
