A Trip Down Memory Lane

For the past couple of months I've been working on clearing out a couple of boxes of old cassette tapes I've kept ever since I was at school. I've always loved music and listening to the Top 40 chart on the radio was my favourite way to spend entire Sunday afternoons. My own music collection was started with a few cassette tapes, my very own hi-fi (I was so proud!) and a little help from my Dad. I'd record all of my favourite songs from the radio so I could listen to them on my walkman to and from school :)

By going through my old cassette collection, I've found so many old favourites which I had completely forgotten about!

My lovely old hi-fi is long gone but my Dad lent me his new gadget so that I could capture the old music and store it on our computer. Clever, huh?

So this is the little legend, the Ion Tape Express (I think this is a newer version than my Dad's) which is a cassette to MP3 convertor. It is so easy to use and it has meant that my entire music collection is still in tact even after I've cleared away my boxes of cassettes ;)

Something else I found super useful - when I couldn't remember the track name or even the artist of some of the songs I'd recorded, I used SoundHound. This is an app which will find all the information from a snippet of any song you play. And I do mean ANY song as I had no problems finding all the info I needed! Sometimes, I had to play it a couple of times to get a hit, but it never let me down!

So my cassette tapes are sorted. Now the question is what can I do with them... :)

Decor Delights: Making a home!

So by this time next week we'll be in our new place, finally! I've been so stressed out with all the mechanics of the actual move that I haven't yet even thought about how lovely we'll be able to make the place!

So, I went window shopping on Etsy ;)

Because a girl can never have enough jars!

The perfect table for our new balcony!

These would look so pretty dotted around the flat :)

This chair needs a little love but would be perfect for my dressing table :)

I couldn't have put it better myself!

Only 5 more days to go!

Instagramed! Flat Photos

Hello there :)

We moved into our flat in December, about a week before Christmas and it has been our first proper home together. We'd lived together before but in a shared flat with four other people so we wanted it to be really special. And it has been :) However, our rented flat is now being sold and we have to move again, D'OH! We haven't yet been given our two months notice as they're still going through the sale proceedings but they have accepted an offer so now we're just playing the waiting game and looking for our next new home...

I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite things in our flat :)

Mirrored jewellery box bought in Edinburgh

Vintage gaming console complete with Sonic the Hedgehog ;)

Dragonfly lamp thrifted on Brick Lane

Wardrobe decoration

Home sweet home! Doorstop which doesn't quite keep the door open but looks pretty anyway :)

Sweet little bedroom seat my man set up
We'll be sad to leave our flat but we're looking forward to the next adventure!

London Diversion: Geffrye Museum

I recently had a day off and decided to visit the Geffrye Museum. This is a really cool museum of the home housed within 18th Century almshouses, which used to be a home for the elderly built with money donated by Sir Robert Geffrye. It's a two minute walk from Hoxton station and I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance to visit :)

The museum is an exhibition of English middle class living rooms from the 1600s right through until the present day. Visiting the museum is like taking a walk through time!

The beautiful exterior

A parlour in 1695
A sunny reading room, how lovely is this?!

A drawing room in 1830
This is an Edwardian Period room, love that light!

A beautiful 1930s Period room

Mid-century living room

I fell in love with this pedestal table from about 1845 :) what a beauty!

1900 Japanese parasol - eventually declared unsafe for decorating fireplaces!

A super cool retro TV from the 1950s
Did you know that...?
  • Downing Street became the official London residence of the Prime Minister in 1732.
  • In 1765 an 8-year-old Mozart wrote his first symphony.
  • The World’s first underground railway opened in London in 1863.
  • In London, in 1870, the postal service was so efficient that you could invite your friend to afternoon tea by sending an invitation that same morning!

Snapshot from home

Hello again :)

I took a trip back to the Lake District to see my family and I spent as much time as I possibly could in the countryside! You don't realise how gross the air is in London until you manage to get out and take a deep breath of fresh air into your lungs. It feels fantastic! So naturally, I made the most of it ;) I just wish I had appreciated it more while I lived there growing up. Oh well, better late than never...

Here are a few pics I shot via the magic of Instagram.

Meet our family dog :) Little Chicken is her name and she is amazing!
I can't wait to take her camping in a few weeks.

This sheep started clawing the rail as we arrived.
Little Chicken wasn't too impressed with that!

A not-so-friendly bear greeted us at the start of our walk. Stern but cool.

Decor Delights: Storage Jars

Jars make things look better. Besides I was sick of all the drawer space being taken :) My jar collection may continue to grow in the future...
